Between Biarritz and Lourdes, facing the Pyrenees in heart of Bearn, Henri Ramonteu créâtes dry and sweet white wines from an exceptional terroir, the land of Domaine Cauhape. THE VINEYARD
The vineyard cover 42 hectares of clay dominant terroir. The vines are planted on the steep hillsides. With a south, south-east exposure and differing altitude between the parcels of vines (the highest 400m) the vines benefit from optimum climatic conditions. The variety Petit Manseng contributes to the making of gréât sweet wine and equally to gréât dry wines. The Gros Manseng and Courbu bring finesse and fruit. The Camaralet and Lauzet are ancient varieties that we are reintroducing little by little to give birth to a new génération of dry Jurancon wines.
WORK IN THE VINEYARD
At Cauhape, the hand of man is omniprésent in the vines. All the work is performed by hand : pruning, bud rubbing, leaf plucking, tucking etc. The grapes are harvested by hand with several passes in the vineyard. The grapes are placed delicately in small crates for transportation to the winery. A daily observaton of nature, our memory and our expérience guides our cultivation choices which have for a long time been very close to organic practises. Today we can tell you how important it is to listen to the vine and allow her to blossom. Therefore between September and December, we are passionately working to create the mythical wines of the Domaine.

THE WINERY
Pneumatic presses and stainless steel tanks allows receipt of the grapes in perfect condition. 80% of the harvest is fermented and aged in French oak barrels. Only the top cuvées will receive new oak. Maturation in barrel varies between 6 months and 2 years depending on the different wines. Every step of the fermentation and maturation receives gréât attention to détail. With a well equipped modern winery we can only magnify the secret that the vine promises.
THE TEAM AT DOMAINE CAUHAPE
15 people surround Henri Ramonteu. 10 people work in the vines for pruning, leaf plucking, tucking etc. 1 winemaker who helps Henri to create the different wines. 1 cellarmaster responsible for dispatching stock to France and abroad. 2 assistants to help with sales and logistics and to welcome visitors to the cellar door for tasting. 1 salesman, ambassador of the domaine who covers on and off premise in France.
15 motivated personalities contribute to making the exceptional, signature wines that Domaine Cauhape offers today ; vibrant aromatic wines of finesse, character and élégance.
Domaine Cauhape combines a beautiful alchemy, a history of love and passion for the vines that we garden, with the raisins that we press, with the juice that we guide through fermentation, with the barrels that we age attentively and with the bottles we dress. Depending on the year, 8 or 9 wines are created with passion. I am always proud to présent them to you.

Domaine Cauhape is situated at Monein, in the heart of Bearn, a few kilometres from Pau. Visit and taste the sweet and dry wines of Jurancon in the company of the owner himself, Henri Ramonteu. The Domaine also offers direct sales.
Domaine Cauhape welcomes you to come and taste on weekdays from 8am until 6 pm and Saturday from 10am until 6pm.
