The Artouste train - the highest in Europe
It is one of the most beautiful rides in the region. The Artouste Train, the highest in Europe, (altitude of 2000 m), offers you the original and unique possibility to reach the wonders of nature in the Pyrénées mountains, to discover the azure-blue Artouste lake, and to meet with pastoral life.
The train is located in the Béarn region near Pau, a few kilometers from the Spanish border and the Pyrénées National Park. It is the ideal place for amateurs of wide open spaces where tall mountains are accessible to all!
The Bétharram Caves
Between Pau and Lourdes, you will discover the magnificent Bétharram Caves. A subterranean world awaits you, with the exploration of galleries dug and miraculously sculpted by water over the centuries.
A real enchantment of concretions with astonishing shapes, sublimated by the careful lighting that highlights impressive geological formations (stalagmites, stalactites, draperies, columns...). The rooms follow one another: naiads' pool, chandeliers room, fairy room, columns room etc. The richness of the shapes stimulates the imagination throughout the visit (1.5h). Try to find among these natural surprises the imitation of the big bell, the elephant or the virgin...
You will then go down the chasm, stopping at the Roman Cloister room to find the underground river.
